IIUM staffs honoured for competing in sports events

GOMBAK, 23 December 2017 – For the first time IIUM staff were honoured with university’s Staff Sports Award (USSA) for competing in a number of sports activities and events which include the Sukan Kakitangan Universiti Malaysia (SUKUM) 2017 and other invitational sporting events.

The award ceremony that took place yesterday (22 December) at Banquet Hall in the Rectory building was to recognise and instil team spirit among IIUM staff sports teams. Deputy Rector (Internationalisation  and Industry and Community Relations), Prof. Dr. Abdelaziz Berghout, was present to express his appreciation.

The event was attended by athletes from different departments within IIUM including those from Petaling Jaya and Kuantan campus. The athletes as well as the committee members were dressed in black and yellow, the symbolic colours of Malaysian sports.

A number of different awards were up for grabs as the first USSA went underway. Among the coveted prizes were the Best Team Manager Award, Best Coach, Best Team and the sought after Sportsman and Sportswoman of the year awards.

This is the first edition of the USSA initiated by Executive Director of the Management Services Division, Dato’ Abdul Rahim Ahmad, and as expressed by Prof. Dr. Abdelaziz Berghout “we are likely to see future editions of USSA”.

Programme coordinator, Mohammad Khairi bin Roslan, breathed a sigh of relief as he said, “We had to organise this event on a month’s notice and we are very thrilled with the teamwork of the committee to make this event a success.”
