KUALA LUMPUR, 2 December 2017: The Communication Annual Grand Dinner 2017 (AGD17) attended by students, lecturers and alumni, held at Pacific Regency Hotel Suites Thursday night (30 November), was a success.
With ‘Retro’ as a theme, the dinner was full of beautiful and amazing outfits. Not to mention, the setting of the annual grand dinner was calming and serene as everyone was enjoying each other’s company.
In her welcoming address, the Head of Department of Communication, Dr. Aini Maznina Abd Manaf was happy to note that “this annual event has become a get-together among students, the alumni especially students who have just graduated, and fellow lecturers of the Department”.
“I am very pleased the students worked very hard to organise the event. Indeed, it was a success as students have given positive response and the presence of many students, lecturers and alumni of Communication showed their support and an indicative of a sense of belonging towards the Department,” she told IIUMToday.
It was also noted that the event was a reflection of a great team work and team spirit among the students and an excellent bonding between students and lecturers apart from leadership that prevailed in making the event a success.
The highlight of the annual grand dinner was the presentation of the awards to the students from various entities within the Department of Communication – Communication Students Association (COSA), IIUM.fm, IIUMToday, Institute of Public Relations Malaysia Students Association (IPRMSA) and the new addition, Communication TV (COMMTV). As for COSA, they used their awards slot to give an applause to one of their biggest supporters, Prof. Dr. Saodah Wok, as she received a Special Award. She also received Best Dress Award alongside Mr. Aznan Mat Piah for lecturer’s category. Firdaus Roslan and Azra Farzana Shuib won Best Dress Awards for the students’ category.
Asked to comment on her hope for the remaining of this semester, Dr. Aini said she hoped that the award winners will keep up with their good performance and “may the award they received motivate them to contribute better in their respective entity, in a way that could benefit themselves and the Communication Department”.
“I also hope that graduating students will continuously put efforts to gain knowledge and obtain necessary skills to prepare themselves for their career by being outstanding and extraordinary,” she added.
Meanwhile, the AGD17 programme manager, Azanis Shahila said, “The event wouldn’t be a success if it wasn’t for the commitment and support of committees as we had such a little time, but eventually it became such a beautiful dinner.”
The event was organised by IIUMToday in collaboration with IPRMSA. Enlivening the evening were entertainers Lil Squad, Fakhrul Illusionszs, Hi-Busker and The Prism. ***
