KUALA LUMPUR, 2 November 2017: As an initiative to raise funds for MERCY Malaysia to help the Rohingya refugees, the Malaysia Golf Association (MGA) organised a charity golf tournament named œAngels of Mercy Golf Series.

The proceeds from the tournament will go to MERCY Malaysias humanitarian aid project at Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, where hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees are living in poverty and constant hardship.

The President of MGA, Senator Admiral Tan Sri Mohd Anwar stated that they targeted a total fund of RM 450,000 in the first tournament of the series, which will tee off on 3 December at the Sungai Long Golf and Country Resort, Kajang.

œBoth MGA and MERCY Malaysia are embarking on a journey of collaboration of shared responsibility to realise MERCYs projects locally and globally, he said at the launch held at MERCY Malaysia on Tuesday (31 October).

œIt is geared towards reigniting the ˜Swing Fore for Charity fever among Malaysians, he added.

The President of MERCY Malaysia, Datuk Dr. Ahmad Faizal Perdaus mentioned that the collaboration with MGA is œindeed timely.

“The crisis in Cox’s Bazar is mounting with each passing day with refugees pouring in daily. Two of our primary healthcare clinics are already operating at maximum capacity with our volunteer doctors seeing more than 400 patients a day,” he said.

Based on the latest statistics, 58 per cent of refugees are children under the age of 17, and more than half of them are women and girls. About 5 per cent, which is the lowest estimated number, of the women are pregnant.

œWe have decided to build a Mother and Child centre at the MERCY clinics to provide maternity services and others,” Faizal added.

For more information on the golf tournament, participants can call the MGA office at 03-92837300 or Mercy at 03-21422007.
