GOMBAK, 8 October 2017: No sign of giving up for IIUM Mustang Rowing Team despite not getting a medal in the 11th Varsity Boat Race (VBR) 2017 held at Bukit Merah Resort, Perak, from 3 until 7 October. Instead, the team is in high spirit to keep looking for ways to improve.

Its captain, Ahmed Wafi Abdul Rashid said, “Obviously we’ll need to train harder. We won’t shy away from this. We’ll analyse it and come back stronger.”

An accident that occurred during the race affected the timing advantage that the team had in the Men’s single category and due to the accident, Men’s single category was excluded from the race.

However, IIUM Women’s single category, represented by Norhidayah Ahmad Zariff, a student of Kulliyyah of Language and Management (KLM), managed to get to the final race.

Ahmed Wafi said that the race this year seemed tougher as it was a new race course for a lot of Rowing Team members.

The 11th edition of the Varsity Boat Race Championship was organised by the Ministry of Higher Education and conducted by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

UTM Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Durrishah Idrus, gave away the prizes to the winners at the prize presentation ceremony.***
