IIUM Eco Club Creates Environmental Awareness through œGreen Screening

By Ammar Abdullah

GOMBAK, 7 October 2017- In conjunction with the 10th International Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Fest (KLEFF), the IIUM Eco Club is collaborating with EcoKnights, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), to organise a œgreen screening to raise awareness among youth about environment and nature.

The “green” screening involved a film, which is a compilation of environmental-themed videos, which was created by Malaysians to raise environmental awareness and to inspire people to think and act on environmental sustainability, while promoting IIUM Eco Club and Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Fest (KLEFF).

As one of the KLEFF’s roadshow programmes, IIUM Eco Club held a film presentation at Mini Audi A, Kulliyyah of Engineering from 9.00 a.m until 12.00 p.m on Friday (6 October).

The Programme Manager, Muhammad Faris Mohd Fauzi said that IIUM Eco Club chose to conduct a movie screening since it is more attractive to the students rather than organising a talk.

“It is more attractive for people to watch and feel the real situation about nature and to realise how nature is so important to us human beings, he said.

œAs students, we are still learning and it is easy for us to educate other students about nature. We have to start with ourselves first for our next generation.”

Muhammad Faris said he really hoped that the youth will appreciate and protect the environment, even with a simple and tiny effort.

œAs consumers, we can make an effort at least by reducing the usage of straws. Do not use straws. If we do not want to participate in this kind of event, at least avoid using straws, it will protect mother nature,” he added.

He also hoped that IIUM Eco Club will be known in IIUM and able to stand on par with other clubs, as IIUM Eco Club is still new to the scene as it was established last year. For their upcoming event, he said, they will conduct a programme to plant trees around IIUM.

The 10th International Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Fest organised by EcoKnights will exhibit various activities like 16 live performances, 16 talks and workshops, 43 green market exhibitors and 86 eco film screening. This event will be held on 23 until 29 October 2017 at Publika, Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur. ***
