KUALA LUMPUR, 2 October 2017 – Malaysian ice skater, Julian Yee made the nation proud after having qualified to join the Winter Olympic Games which will be held in South Korea next year.
The history has been made after Julian Yee was placed sixth at the 49th CS Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorf, Germany on Sunday.
“It has been a long, tiring and meaningful journey. The milestone has been achieved and Malaysia will for sure be at the 2018 Winter Olympics! I’ve finally made it! Thank you to everyone who supported me and gave me the strength. Without you guys it would be impossible,” he said on his Instagram account.
A 20-year old athlete became the second Malaysian athlete after Jeffry Webb secured a place in Alpine skiing event during Asian Winter Games in Sapporo on February.
Julian Yee, a 2017 South East Asian Games (SEA Games) gold medallist told The Star that his goals at the Olympic was to qualify for the final round.
The 2018 Winter Olympic Games will be held at Pyeongchang, South Korea. For the first time, Malaysia has athletes who are qualified for this event and it has brought positive development to the winter sports in Malaysia.***
