IIUM team excels in MICPA-CAANZ Investment Challenge

SUBANG JAYA, 26 September 2017- One of the IIUM’s team managed to secure second place in MICPA-CAANZ Investment Challenge 2017 which took place in Monash University Sunway Simulated Trading (MUSST) Lab last Saturday (23 September).

IIUM representatives, Hurairah Chorghay and Muhammad Rasydan Ayob, paired up for the first team and managed to obtain second place in the competition.

They were awarded with MICPA-CAANZ scholarship, RM800, trophies and certificates for their performance.

The second team – Mior Amirul Noor and Ahmad Fikri Ridzuan – had both given an excellent effort despite not being able to make it to the top four finalists.

Since they participated in this competition for the first time, it had motivated them to make continuous and early preparations for best result.

“Although we do not have any past experience in business or investment challenges, we want this to be our first and our best participation,” said Hurairah Corghay.

Hurairah stressed the importance of making quick decisions and grabbing any possible opportunities to adapt to the dynamic nature of the challenges. With coaching from Dr. Fawwaz Ahmed, Dr. Narol and Dr. Azhar Mohamad from Department of Finance, Hurairah Chorghay and Muhammad Rasydan managed to maintain their pace in the challenges.

Hurairah also said that they will represent IIUM in upcoming CIMB-ASEAN Stock Challenge in October where they will compete with other students around ASEAN contries, making it a more challenging competition.

MICPA-CAANZ Investment Challenge is formulated to provide exposure and create an interest in the world of finance and investment among accounting students. It is an opportunity for the participants to understand a critical aspect in the nature of business.

Each participating university was required to send two teams consisting of four students majoring in accounting field. A total of 14 universities had competed in the one-day competition.

The Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) has been collaborating with the Monash Accounting and Finance Club (MAFC) and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ)   for the past five years to organise this annual competition.***
