20 places available for Internship under SME-University Internship Programme 2017

GOMBAK, 17 Jun 2017: Local undergraduate and postgraduate students from all Kulliyyah of the university are welcome to apply for 20 internship places available under the SME-University Internship Programme 2017 before the official deadline set on 6 July this year.

Under the programme organised by IIUM’s Office of Industrial Links (OIL) in collaboration with Small and Medium Enterprise Corporation Malaysia (SME Corp. Malaysia), students will undergo internship for three months from September to November 2017 at various companies where four lecturers will be appointed as advisers for each group.

Director of OIL, Dr. Norbaiduri Ruslan told IIUMToday, “The purpose of this programme is to expose university students (at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels) to the realities of running and operating a business venture.”

She said the programme is designed to help the nation develop capable human capitals that will drive diverse management skills in innovation and creativity, and expose students to business acumen of new and existing entrepreneurship.

The types of companies that students will be able to do their internship consist of the following:

  • Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
  • Preferably companies with SCORE rating of two (2) stars and below.
  • Located nearby the participating public universities.

“It is hoped that this programme would help foster a culture of entrepreneurship among university students as well as improve the SMEs’ operations in Malaysia,” Dr. Norbaiduri said.
