KUANTAN, 9 May 2017: Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Azran Azhim Noor Azmi received ‘The Most Productive Researcher Award (Science and Technology)’ at the IIUM Quality Day 2017 held on 27 April recently.

“I felt very grateful and to be honest I did not expect to win the award. It is unbelievable because I’m still new here in IIUM,” he said.

Before joining IIUM as Associate Professor at the Department of Biotechnology, Kulliyyah of Science, he was with Tokyo Denki University, Japan in 2008 as Assistant Professor and became a senior lecturer in Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur.

“I really don’t expect that I will be selected as a winner for this award. I was just doing my job. And I keep thinking why I get this award. It’s weird for me because I’m still new here in IIUM.

I joined IIUM in 2015 which was two years ago and this award for 2016, which was for last year’s performance. I just joined IIUM and then I got this award. I really don’t expect to get this award in a 1-year-period,” he added.

In February 2015, he was awarded the Takeda Young Entrepreneurship Award by Takeda Foundation, Tokyo. Presently, he focused on Biomedical Engineering, Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine.

“When I was involved in biomedical engineering, my supervisor was making a research regarding Blood Flow Velocity and then I also started to study about that.”

Today, he is still actively involved in Regenerative Medicine and has made a project about biological scaffolds. This project started when he was in Japan and continues until today.

“This project is still continuing. My students and I keep on developing and making improvement on this project.”
