‘Aurah Clinic’ a wake up call for female students’ attire

GOMBAK, 26 April 2017: With the hope to bring glory, honour and dignity to IIUM as an Islamic University, i_Masjid took this responsibility by organising the ‘Aurah Clinic’ at the campus business compound from 17 to 20 April recently.

This event was triggered by trending nowadays where female students are getting too fashionable and dressing up without conforming to Islamic compliance.

œThis is an issue that needs to be worried and cared for by everyone as the believers are but a single brotherhood, as mentioned in Surah Al-Hujurat verse 10, programme manager, Ulfa Jaafar, expressed her concern.

œNot all sisters here are following Syariah attire and several lecturers said it became a trending for female students to wear legging to the class. Thats why we conducted this programme because we want to approach them,” Nurwahidah Jamil, who is the assistant programme manager told IIUMToday.

Therefore, a number of activities such as Article Corner, Fashion in Islam, Tazkirah and Demonstration, Muslimah Compliance Sales, Lucky Draw and Q & A box have been conducted by Annisa Bureau of i_Masjid with the objective to raise awareness on the importance of covering the aurah.

Throughout the programme, the highlight was on how to cover aurah properly by wearing stocking, hand socks and covering chest with hijab.

œWe did not expect too much transformation in their appearance but we hope they can lose and thicken their attire, Ulfa said.

She added, œSurprisingly, they thanked us for organising this event as this showed that matters pertaining to female aurah is crucial.

This event received positive feedback from local and international students from different Kulliyyah although some of them misinterpreted that the organisers wanted to judge the female students’ appearance. Male students, Nurwahidah said, were also welcomed to support and participate in this event.

As the programme came to a close, Ulfa gave the following advice, œAlthough we are living in a century Islam will never be old. I believe our sisters are brilliant enough to choose the fashion that is paralleled with Islamic teaching, be it expensive and exclusive because you are too precious.

Nurwahidah added, œWe will try to make this programme annually for every semester and hope to collaborate with other societies in the next programme.

Meanwhile, i_Masjid and Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (SHAS) Mosque will hold ‘Entrepreneurship Festival’ or ‘Enterefest’ from 25 to 28 April. ***
