GOMBAK, 22 April 2017: A charity drive “ONE RINGGIT ONE HOPE” provides a platform for lecturers and students to donate to the less fortunate students of Islamic Revealed Knowledge (IRK).

Organised by student affairs bureau, Islamic Revealed Knowledge Students’ Secretariat (IRKSS), the one-week programme has set a target of collecting a total donation of RM25,000.

“We conducted a survey to find out IRKS students’ problems and the finding was that 80% of them are facing financial difficulties. Due to this, we think it is very important to continue the “ONE RINGGIT ONE HOPE” programme this semester,” said programme manager, Ahmad Danial Kamaruzaman.

With the theme “small things can make a huge difference”, he explained that by giving out just RM1 it can help change the life of that 80% students.

According to Nurul Syahirah Naseruddin, who is the vice president of IRKSS, this is also intended to encourage students to start donating with just a small amount (of money).

Ahmad Danial said there are lecturers who are willing to help, yet they do not know who among the students are eligible to receive their donation. Thus, this had led the secretariat to organise the “ONE RINGGIT ONE HOPE” programme to act as a platform for lecturers where we will accept their donation and channel it to the students.

Students who are facing financial problem are encouraged to apply for donation via a Google form provided by IRKSS which listed the terms and conditions to qualify for receiving the aid. “Among the important criteria is that a student does not have sufficient money to buy ticket to go home during public holidays,” he added.

After this collection, IRKSS will be analysing the data to choose suitable applicants and hold an interview session with them to ensure details given by them are correct. Distribution of donation will take place on 30 April and those applicants who are given approval will be notified through email or text message.

IRKSS still welcome donations from all although the programme has ended, said Ahmad Danial.***
