Gombak, 7 April 2017: In conjunction with IRKHS festival, students of Jahili and Islamic Poetry in collaboration with ALA Secretariat IIUM had organised a two-day event called Ibn Al- Sahra: œDescendants of the desert as part of their class project and assignment at Foyer OSC IRKHS.
The event was organised with the aim to improve and extend the students’ knowledge about famous poets who lived during the Jahiliah era by knowing the stories that lie behind their masterpieces at that time and also to encourage students to learn from the stories and get inspired.
Commenting on the event, programme manager, Ahmad Sajdan Mujibullah Ahmad Jihbadz Mokhlis said, œThe event was beneficial for students as it exposed them to the new knowledge which I can say might not have been recognised by them before, because some of them are not Arabic students thus, they are not familiar with some of the famous poets mentioned in this event.
œIt is nice to know these famous poets and be inspired by their stories, and here through this event, we managed to construct a story telling way to make it more interesting and exciting with all the fun activities he added.
Some other things featured were the exhibitions, photo booth, hashtag competition, IIqa Al- Syir, Arabic costumes, free distribution of Arabic sweets, and special programme called Lailatus Samar.
˜Lailatus Samar was held at the Main Auditorium, IIUM at 8.30 pm. It was an event that offered special performance from guest artistes of ˜Battle of Syura which discussed the history of the battle and video presentations by the students of Jahili and Islamic Poetry.
The event’s committee member of  Module and Exhibition, Atiya Nadhirah Muhammad said, œThe reactions from the students towards this event was very good as they were actually amazed by some sort of stories that came from the poets who they probably have never heard before.
Third-year student from the Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences, Zarith Sofea Mohamad Zamri said, œI hoped this kind of event will be held again later in the future because I think it was really good for all students to know the history of these brilliant poets.
œI suggest that they come out with the same type of events in the future, but maybe with different types of theme with perhaps different types of scholars and Islamic philosophers, she added. ***
