Skyflex: Ultimate Frisbee’s starter game, 2017

GOMBAK, 17 February 2017: The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM)’s ultimate Frisbee team is now getting ready for their first game in 2017 – participating in the Skyflex Ultimate Open – that will be held at UITM Jengka.

The tournament is organised by Killabees, home team of UiTM Jengka, and 12 university teams are expected to participate.

IIUM Ultimate Frisbee team, also known as Ulti Mustangs, was officially established in February 2015 and it has been two years since. From unknown to well known, Ultimate Frisbee is a new sports in IIUM that is rapidly receiving good acceptance by the students.

The team is going through an intense training as part of its preparation. As of today, they are left with three days until game day. Co-Captain of Ulti Mustangs, Luqman Sabardin, said the training began as soon as the new semester starts. Fitness, basic movements and tacticals are the essentials and “time waits for no one,” he emphasised.

He added, in this tournament the team wants to move out from their comfort zone by focusing more on advanced tactical move which is new for them compared to previous games. Almost three weeks has passed, the team is now getting closer in achieving their desired tactics.

“A well established team knows the basics to the very core because everyone in the team does it. So, this time around we decided to play smarter.” ***

Elaborating on team’s future plan, Farhan, Senior member of Ulti Mustangs informed that the team targeted to participate in four tournaments which are Game of Throws 2.0 and Single Gender (Female) both in March, NUO’17 and Grizzly Open ’17 in April.

As a record, Ulti Mustangs managed to get a good ranking in several tournaments, and the highest achievement was that the team won second place in Tyro Ultimate Tournament 2015 organised by BMI Kuala Lumpur.***
