Fire drill at Mahallah Sumayyah a great success

GOMBAK, 3 December 2016: The fire emergency and evacuation mock drill conducted this morning at Mahallah Sumayyah achieved magnificent success following high participation and positive response from its residents, according to the Selayang Fire and Rescue Department Operation Commander, Abdul Razak Mokhtar.

Organised by Mahallah Sumayyah office in collaboration with Occupational Safety, Health and Built Environment (OSHBE) and conducted by Selayang Fire and Rescue Department, the mock drill received a positive response from more than 400 supportive residents.

The drill took place at 2.15 a.m when the alarm bells sounded and covering all blocks in Mahallah Sumayyah. Fake bombs and fire were also used to resemble a real life emergency. All students were asked to evacuate themselves in good order, following the instruction of Emergency Response Team (ERT). Students were then directed to the designated evacuation sites and it ended at 3.00 a.m.

The Occupational Safety, Health and Built Environment engineer, Shahrulnizam Jaafar in his remarks said the fire drill and the fire safety training was designed to raise awareness of fire safety among all students in the mahallah.

At the same time, the principal of Mahallah Sumayyah, Asst. Professor Dr. Julia Mohd Said congratulated all students for their full co-operation and commitment by following all directives and guidelines issued to them during the exercise.

“This has been a good experience for me as I would know how to handle a situation with a real fire especially in the mahallah,” said Noor Fazilahhanum Abdul Latiff, one of the residents of Mahallah Sumayyah.

This event was also participated by the authorities from the Office of Security Management (OSeM) and Daya Bersih. ***
