GOMBAK, 13 November 2016: The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) has managed to collect RM35,182 for the Waqf walkway project. From the amount, RM5,000 is collected from the Convocation Fiesta (CONVEST) alone.
The purpose of this project is to build a mega walkway connecting Mahallah Maryam to Kulliyyah of Engineering.
The pathway will connect seven students residences to the university centre benefiting more than 7,000 students who are exposed to the scorching heat from the sun and heavy rainfall making some susceptible to health problems without the walkway.
The project started from the SRC tenure of 2014/2015 and has now been passed on to the current tenure.
Chairperson of SRC Welfare Secretariat, Nurafida Zaiman, said that a lot of work needed to be done to reach the amount of RM653, 000, the cost required for the whole construction to be done. However, SRC is in the process of revising the budget to see whether it is possible to reduce the total cost.
She also mentioned that the IIUM community could help by donating money, or by sharing about the project with other students, staffs, or even with non-IIUM community members so that they can give donations if they are interested.
œIt doesnt necessarily have to be in the form of monetary contributions, Waqf is more than that. If you make an effort to promote this project to other people without any hope for rewards, actually youre doing Waqf as you do it for the betterment of others, Nurafida told IIUMToday.
œI hope we can cooperate to promote this project so that we can ensure that this plan be executed as it has a lot of benefits for the community, she added.
Anyone interested to make a donation, can contact the Students’ Representative Council at 011-2940 1562. ***
