GOMBAK, 23 October 2016 – International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) in collaboration with the Ministry of High Education (MOHE) has organised “MOHE-IIUM Varsity Women Games (VWG) 2016” for the second time from 14 until 16 October 2016 at Female Sports Complex, IIUM Gombak.
This tournament saw an overwhelming participation of 500 athletes from various institutions of higher learning (both public and private) in Malaysia. IIUM Rector, Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Zaleha Kamaruddin said the event aimed to increase participation among women in sports especially among female university students.
The uniqueness that has been maintained by the organiser is the involvement of women as backbone for the programme. “From team officers, referees, secretariat staff until security officers and technical staff, this difference has been brought again in this tournament,” said Norsharmila Zabadi, who was with the organiser of VWG 2016.
She said that in 2015, VWG became the women’s conducted event for the first time.
A total of five sports contested in this event were netball, volleyball, petanque, dodge ball and touch rugby. Cash prizes were up for winners to grab.
The closing and prize giving ceremony was officiated by Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Dr. Mary Yap Kain Ching.

Netball – International Islamic University Malaysia
Volleyball – Tunku Abdul Rahman College
Petanque – Universiti Sains Malaysia
Dodgeball – Sunway College
