IIUM Medical Centre, Kuantan officially launched today

IIUM Kuantan, 20 July 2016 – The Constitutional Head of IIUM, His Royal Highness the Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah today officiated the opening of IIUM Medical Centre (IIUMMC) located in the IIUM medical campus in Kuantan, Pahang.

The IIUMMC was built in July 2012 and completed in May 2016. The hospital buildings are worth of RM412.62 million and RM177 million for its advance medical tools.

The 11-storey building is equipped with 350 beds, 15 specialist clinics, 20 operation theatres, ICU, CCU, NICU, and labour rooms, and supported by 133 experts from over 70 sub-specialty from the Kulliyyah of Medicine, Kulliyyah of Allied Health Sciences, Kulliyyah of Nursing, Kulliyyah of Pharmacy and Kulliyah of Dentistry.

According to the Rector of IIUM, Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Zaleha Kamaruddin, IIUMMC is the first teaching hospital with its niche of syariah compliance. She is proud and glad that IIUM is contributing to the community in Kuantan, Pahang.

The hospital was built during Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Syed Arabi Idid’s tenure as IIUM Rector. According to Prof. Syed Arabi, he was happy that the hospital is finally approved and officiated as part of IIUM as IIUM in the past only had the medical facilities but no hospital. He thanked former Prime Minister, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for agreeing that IIUM should have its own hospital.

The officiating ceremony was also attended by Pahang Menteri Besar, Dato’ Sri DiRaja Hj. Adnan Yaakob and Advisor to the government of Malaysia on socio-cultural matters cum President of IIUM, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Utama Dr. Rais Yatim, and the Rector, Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Zaleha Kamarudin.***
