GOMBAK, 26 April 2018 – The Inter-Mahallah Cultural Week (IMCW 2018), held at IIUM Cultural Centre (ICC) which ended last Monday (23 April), was a memorable one for campus community when Mahallah Bilal emerged as the Best Overall Mahallah for brothers and Mahallah Safiyyah for sisters.
By upholding the theme “Royal Majestic Legacy”, the closing ceremony was attended and officiated by Deputy Rector (Student Affairs & Alumni), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shamsul Jamili Yeob.
During the event, a ‘pantun’ competition was held between representatives of Mahallah Bilal and Mahallah Safiyyah after competing in preliminary rounds with other 12 participants two days before the closing ceremony.
Mahallah Safiyyah won the competition with one of its representatives, Nurul Ain Shaiful Fahmi, declared the best participant, and received gold chain sponsored by Habib Jewel.
According to Nurul Ain, IMCW is the best platform for IIUM students to demonstrate their talents, promote cultural activities, at the same time elevate their own culture to a higher standard.
The IMCW 2018 was conducted from 16 until 23 April featuring various kinds of cultural-based activities such as poetry, nasyid, ‘pantun’, fashion show, traditional games, and singing competition.
Organised by Mahallah Representative Coordination Council, the next IMCW is expected to be held in 2020. ***
