GOMBAK, 25 April 2018: A solo participant in the song writing competition of “Save Our River (SOR) Project 2018”, Ahmad Zarif Bin Zulkiflee, 21, won the contest for his song titled “Alam”.
“The dynamic of the song is good. There is a build up from the verse to chorus,” said Adam Masumi, one of the judges from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).
Other judges were also of high praise of the winner for the arrangement of lyric and music, and for producing unique sounds, with combinations of sounds from the river, piano and birds’ chirping.
Meanwhile the winner, Ahmad Zarif, said, “The idea of my lyric comes from the things that happened around us such as the destruction and pollution. And when I am writing the lyric, I try my best to get something that comes from my heart.”
Participants in the competition are required to create lyric that relates to nature and the importance of spreading preservation of ecosystem for Earth Day.
Ahmad Zarif added: “The lesson I received is that we need to have good intention in doing something. Most important, the benefits the audience get from the lyric and the impact it created. I really hope people will gain something from the lyric I have written.”
He also said that this is not his first time writing the lyric as he has written more than five songs before this. And he has already uploaded many videos of his songs in YouTube.
Although the participants only have several days to submit the lyric before the performance, Ahmad Zarif has proved that he can produce good lyric. Being a good singer, his songs were mostly in Malay with original lyric.
“I’m still in learning process in writing a song, producing music, and singing. My ambition since a kid is to involve in music, anything that relates with music. Alhamdulillah, Allah is the best planner, I’m feeling thankful and this competition really gave me motivation to keep on working,” he said, adding that he really wanted to produce more songs for himself.
Ahmad Zarif was awarded RM1000 for winning the first place. The second place has been allotted RM700, while a third place, RM500.
