MISI Club’s second mission to Kampung Gawang, Sarawak, 20-27 Jan

GOMBAK, 7 January 2018: After the success of community outreach programme to Sarawak last year, MISI Club IIUM is embarking on its second mission, in collaboration with Urusetia Saudara Kita (USK) from Kuching, to conduct an outreach to Kampung Gawang, Simunjan, Sarawak.

This one-week community service project, co-organised by University Centre for Community Engagement (BUDI), will be held from 20 to 27 January.

According to its Programme Coordinator, Nur Alia Amirah Jamaluddin, around 23 committee members will be volunteering on the programme to assist with the planned modules and activities. Among the services to be extended are religious enhancement, infrastructure and basic needs, as well as education and motivation.

To achieve the objectives of the mission, the club is requesting members of the public for monetary donations to help them in preparing the materials and equipment.

“As for now, we are still looking for more donations as we are going to make mural and mini library for the community,” Nur Alia added.

She said the community there are those who received less exposure to basic Islamic teachings despite being Muslims for years. Hence, this project is described as one of the ways to lend a hand to them in terms of education, financial and individual obligatory knowledge (fard ‘ayn).
