GOMBAK, 14 November 2017: A Convocation Award Ceremony was held at Restoran Nelayan, Gombak, yesterday to honour 18 distinguished graduands from each department who have excelled in their studies at the Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (KIRKHS).

The event was held in conjunction with the 33rd Convocation Ceremony and the awards were given by the acting Dean of the Kulliyyah, Professor Mohammad A. Quayum.

Also present at the event were the Kulliyyah’s Deputy Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Muhammad Fuzi Omar, as well as Heads of the Departments in the Kulliyyah.

The three main awards of the Kulliyyah, namely Best Overall Student, Best Students (Academic) and Best Student (Co-curriculum) went to Muhammad Idlan Afiq Mohamad Zahari, Nurul Rafah Syazwani Rahmat, Widadul Wahidah Mahamod respectively.

Meanwhile, 11 graduands received Best Student Awards from their respective departments, including two graduands from the Department of Communication, Muhammad ‘Izzud Deen Redzuan and Zulhamka Rosli, while other recipients were Master and PhD students.

Out of all the recipients, Farah Nabilah Abdul Rahman and Mohd Arif Mohd Yusof, took the spotlight to receive Budi (Virtue) Award and Ibn Al-Mas’ud Al-Hafiz Award.

Professor Quayum acknowledged the excellent students who were nominated by each department as an appreciation towards their hard work and dedication in their studies.

“This is the moment to recognise their dedications, devotions, sacrifices and their dreams, because everybody is driven by dreams. They must have an intention in their hearts to become the best students.”

He hoped the recipients of the awards would remember their origin as IIUM graduates and always maintain the Islamic values in their mind, especially in their anticipated challenging career years.

Asked about the large number of KIRKHS graduates this year as compared to previous year, Prof. Quayum said that due to the lots of demand for many subjects offered, it became one important criteria in making the graduands from the Kulliyyah different from other departments.

“We are actually doing very well, especially since our number of postgraduates is increasing and that is very important for our university. Therefore, it is good news,” he said.

The recipient of the Best Student Award for Academic, Nurul Rafah Syazwani Rahmat, who is a Quran and Sunnah graduand, said it was an honour to her and her parents.

“The main thing is that I have made my parents proud, because previously, they have never experienced seeing their children achieving a level this high,” she said.

Nurul Rafah, who is currently working as an Arabic educator, told IIUMToday that she is planning to pursue her studies at Master’s level in IIUM.

Political Science graduand, Muzakkir Muhammad Diah, who also received the Best Student Award for his department, said he was humbled by the honour.

Muzakkir who was just employed in one of the big data analytics company as a research associate, said that one of his future plans for the next part of his life is to become a data analyst.

“I hope that I could grow myself from time to time and as a fresh graduate, I have to venture more into the working industry,” he added.
