GOMBAK, 13 November 2017: Graduates of IIUM were urged to occupy leadership role as Generation Y is fully expected to play their part in the new work place settings.
In his speech at Session 3 of IIUM Convocation yesterday (12 November), Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Senator Dato’ Dr. Asyraf Wajdi, said: “The traits of benevolence, empathy, magnanimity, compassion and patience must be inculcated and manifested and not supplanted by over-reliance on technology and gadgets, although we value them to make life and our environment more comfortable.”
He advised graduands not to forget whatever they are going to do next, whether landing themselves in a certain career, going into entrepreneurship, or continuing to pursue higher education, they need to facilitate towards the acts of ibadah.
“They have to show that they are indeed the Generations of Rabbani and Ulul Albab, and the Generation of the Ummah,” he added.
Asked by the media to comment on IIUM graduates after the convocation session ended, the Deputy Minister said that many IIUM graduates have proven themselves having secured various responsible jobs and occupying important positions all around the world.
Around 5,615 graduands received their scrolls from 11 until 13 November. Monday will be the last day for the 33rd IIUM’s convocation for graduands from the following Kulliyyahs – Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design, Kulliyyah of Engineering and Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology on the morning session (Session 5).
Session 6 will be for the remaining Kulliyyahs – Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, Kulliyyah of Education, Kulliyyah of Pharmacy and Kulliyyah of Sciences. ***
