Flash flood in IIUM campus: Students advised to stay indoor and take precautions

GOMBAK, 10 November 2017: Non-stop heavy rain for two hours that started this evening had hit IIUM campus here and brought flash floods to certain areas affecting a number of vehicles and motorcycles.

According to IIUM’s Public Relations Officer, Roslan Rusli, this was not the first time the university campus had been affected by flash floods. He assured students and parents not to be unnecessarily worried as steps have been taken by the university authorities to address the problem.

Meanwhile, the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) in its statement later this evening had identified the following areas as being affected by the flood:

a) Main road in front of Kulliyyah of Architecture and Design (KAED)
b) Riverside
c) Al-Ghazali Road
d) Mahallah Faruq-Uthman
e) Main road along Gate 3
f) Staffs housing main road
g) Kulliyyah of Education (KOE) underground tunnel

The SRC had advised students to take extra precautions and to stay indoor for the time being until the water has subsided.

Students have also been requested to share any information about other affected areas with their friends or in the social media so that the IIUM community will be ready for any safety measures to prevent untoward incidents from happening.
