GOMBAK, 12 March 2017: A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signing ceremony between International Institute for Muslim Unity (IIMU) and Ibnu Khaldoon Centre, Yemen, took place on Friday (10 March 2017) at the office of the Deputy Rector (Research & Innovation).

The agreement was an opportunity for the two institutions to have a greater working and research relationship. Taking the famous Muslim scholar, Ibnu Khaldon, as a legacy in the aim of encouraging more commitment from Muslim scholars, it is a big contribution of the Ibnu Khaldoon Centre in making research possible on the Hadramis in Malaysia and in Southeast Asia.

According to the Deputy Rector (Research and Innovation), Prof. Mohamad  Ridza Wahiddin, the book that contains research papers which were presented during the conference, organised by IIUM in 2007, has been published.

“Of making this to be meaningful, the MoA must involve the academics, the business community, the government and civil societies,” he added. It was his hope that the Yemen business community would give a contribution towards the success of the MoA.

Meanwhile, Dr. Saleh Mubarak Bazead, who attended the signing ceremony, expressed the hope that this MoA would be successful and give strength of research in IIUM.

In addition, Director of IIMU, Prof. Dr. Waleed Fekry Faris, said, “The institution would be the champion of this MoA in IIUM.”

It was learnt that the IIUM staff members were also conducting research actively, on the Hadramis in Malaysia and in Indonesia. ***
