SERDANG, 6 December 2016 –  The Minister of Health, Datuk Seri Dr. S. Subramaniam today urged Malaysians to change to healthy lifestyle.

“It’s been in our culture we do not practice healthy diet, especially when its comes to taking fruits and vegetables. We should consume at least three plates of vegetables and two plates of fruits everyday, ” he said in his speech when officiating the opening ceremony of Kempen Makan Buah dan Sayur  at Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agro-tourism Show  (MAHA) 2016) at MAEPS.

“It was  shocking to learn that a survey had shown only  six percent  of the adult citizens in Malaysia  consumed enough fruits and vegetables in 2015 compared to 7.5 percent in 2011.

This kind of situation might lead to unhealthy eating habit that increase obesity problem and non-infectious disease such as diabetes, hypertension and a few type of  cancer.”

Due to this reason, the Minister said the government was very committed to solve this issue by launching many campaigns to raise awareness among the people to consume healthy food.

“The campaigns such as Healthy School Canteen in collaboration with non-governmental organisations (NGO’S)  is to provide awareness on need to create a healthy environment to assist citizens to practice healthy diet,” he added.

He reminded the people to practise healthy lifestyle as intended through campaigns. ***
