GOMBAK, 25 July 2016 – Sekolah Dato’ Abdul Razak (SDAR) and Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman (STAR) emerged as the champions in the English category and the Malay category respectively in the 14th Inter-school Debating Championship.
For the English category, with the final motion “That the United States Should Pay Ransom to Terrorist Groups For The Release of Its Citizens”, Sekolah Dato’ Abdul Razak, as the government side, won after beating Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman with the juries (5-2). Muhammad Nabhan from SDAR was announced as the best speaker for final round.
For the Malay category, Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman created history after emerging as the champion for the first time in this competition. The school, represented by Muhammad Ilman, Muhammad Afif and Muhammad Syamil, secured the title after beating Malay College Kuala Kangsar with the juries (7-0). Muhammad Afif was crowned as the best speaker for final round.
The 14th Inter-school Debating Championship was held from 22 until 25 July at IIUM campus in Gombak and was participated by 40 schools for the Malay category and 39 schools for English category respectively. The closing ceremony was launched by IIUM’s Deputy Rector (Student Affairs), Dato’ Mizan bin Hitam. ***
