KUALA TERENGGANU, 12 March 2016: The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), represented by the WowKawKaw team, had battled it out to be named the winner of the Real Business Challenge in the Gempak Keusahawanan Kerjaya, winning RM2000 cash prize.
The three-day event (4 to 6 March) organised by the Ministry of Higher Education was held at University Malaysia Terengganu and participated by ten universities, including private institutions, attracting some 40 participants.
The IIUM team consisted of four talented students, Muhammad Naeem Zaidi (founder), Muhammad Syameel, Nurul Husna and Nur Dini.
“The competition was assessed from the aspect of the sales, marketing and the team itself,” said the founder of WowKawKaw, Muhammad Naeem Zaidi.
Explaining further he stated that 400 bottles of the drink called “ChaNom WowKawKaw” was sold throughout the three-day event.
“It is for us to introduce our product to the new market and to create a brand image,” he added.
According to him, the cash prize that the team won will be used for business purposes and not for personal use.
When asked what he thought about selling the drink, the founder who is still a student, said: “I’ve started to see the opportunity of selling Thailand tea in Malaysia and at that time nobody was doing it, so I tried to sell it in IIUM.”
WowKawKaw has set up two branches, one located in IIUM and the other in Sungai Buloh.
Muhammad Naeem Zaidi, is a Bachelor in Business Administration student majoring in Marketing. He has a plan to expand his business by setting up a franchised business after completing his study in IIUM.
“There are so many people asking me to set up a franchise but I want to finish my study first so that I will be able to manage this business properly,” he added.
The WowKawKaw managed to obtain RM2000 per day by selling the drink to their customers.
“To build customer loyalty is to make your customer happy,” he shared.
The WowKawKaw team had also bagged 1st runner up at the National Entrepreneurship Challenge by winning RM5000 cash prize earlier in January. The competition was held at Universiti Utara Malaysia(UUM) under Malaysia Practice Enterprise Centre (MyPec). ***
