GOMBAK, 5 March 2016: IIUM students have been reminded not to engage themselves excessively with political matters so that they could focus on their mission to unite the ummah, the President of IIUM, Tan Sri Dr. Rais Yatim, said at the soft launch of the Global IIUM Alumni Homecoming 2016 here yesterday.
“We always remind our students not to engage with politics excessively inside campus and take the opportunity to unite the wishes and missions of ummah until we achieve success,” Tan Sri Dr. Rais said while highlighting the donation of nearly RM500,000 from the alumni of IIUM to help students build their future in education.
“This alumni (programme) will be a positive pillar that would ensure the spirit of togetherness among us come into place,” added Dr. Rais.
The President also stated the intention to unite the countries of the Malay Archipelago such as Brunei, Singapore, Indonesia, and Southern Thailand as the alumni territories.
The Global IIUM Alumni Homecoming 2016 was pre-launched at Banquet Hall, Rectory Building, with the attendance of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dato’ Sri Reezal Merican Naina Merican and the Rector of IIUM, Professor Dato’ Sri Dr. Zaleha Kamarudin.
Many alumni had gathered to agree upon certain important projects such as alumni magazine, alumni scholarship, and alumni cafe. Another big launching will be conducted in upcoming December.***
