13th IDC offers stage for future leaders to sharpen their skills

GOMBAK, 4 August 2015: The long-awaited debate tournament in Malaysia, the 13th IIUM Inter-school Debating Championship (13th IDC) will be held here from 7 until 11 August to enhance public speaking skills among its participants.

This event aims at creating awareness among youths on the socio-economic issues affecting Malaysia and the world in general through various motions while promoting values of the Garden of Knowledge and Virtue to the participants.

Organised by the IIUM World Debate and Oratory Centre (IWON) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE), this year’s championship features 570 debaters from 190 teams; 69 teams in Malay language category, 66 teams for English and 55 for Arabic.

The champion from each category will take home MYR3,000, followed by the runner-up with MYR500, and MYR500 for the semi finalist.

Apart from that, another MYR500 prize money will also be given to the overall best speaker and final’s best speaker, each.

The 13th IDC is expected to display prominence that was showcased in the event’s previous series.

Through this competition it can strengthen the bonds between debaters and share experiences among them while introducing the distinct features of Asian Parliamentary Format.

Last year, Sekolah Menengah Agama Al-Islah emerged as the champion for the Malay language category, while Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah won the English language category and Sekolah Menengah Islam Hidayah won the Arabic language category.***
