GOMBAK, 28 October 2014: This year’s Ma’al Hijrah Inter-varsity Arabic Debating Championship will be held at the Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design here from 31 October until 3 November to enhance their skills of Arabic language and public speaking among debaters, and to improve on their performances.
This championship is also aimed at creating awareness among youths on the socio-economic issues affecting the world and Muslim countries respectively using debates as the medium.
Organised by IIUM in collaboration with the Arabic Debating and Public Speaking Club, this debating championship is expected to display grandeur like the previous championship that have been successfully organised.
The event will feature about 72 debaters, 18 teams, and 11 institutions across the region. The programme is expected to ensure its continuity and to preserve the culture of Arabic debate at national level.
There are two categories to be contested, namely Arabic as a First Language (AFL), and Arabic as a Second Language (ASL).
Technically, the inter-varsity Arabic debating championship is an annual national debate competition that gathers all undergraduate Arabic debaters from all universities in Malaysia and internationally.
Through this competition it can strengthen the bonds between debaters and share experiences among them while introducing the distinct features of IIUM Arabic debate characteristics.
All students as well as members of the public are invited to enliven the championship.
