GOMBAK, 29 September 2014: The cost of constructing the water fountain monument came from donation by the Albukhary Foundation, the President of International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Tan Sri Dr. Rais Yatim said.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the site of the new water fountain monument Tan Sri Dr. Rais reaffirmed that no fund from the university was used to build the monument.

He added that the monument represents encouragement for Muslims to read and understand the Quran.

“It exemplifies Islam as universal and provides productivity to life. The water sprouting out from the fountain is a source of life and the roundabout itself signifies the unity we strive together,” said Tan Sri Dr. Rais.

The construction of the monument which took no more than three months received adverse comments and reactions in social media.

He advised IIUM students that they should be more careful in making comments or taking actions.

“This is an Islamic university, not just any other university. Every action and word needs to reflect the image of the university,” he added.

Accompanying the President on the visit was the university’s Rector, Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Zaleha Kamarudin as well as other high officials from the university.

  1. I just wondering..is it too impossible to use the fund donated for something that is directly for the benefit and interest of the students?for example, rocky chairs and problematic projectors or a proper cafe for AIKOL.my comment is not meant to provoke but I am seriously curious to know.
