She is smart and cool, in both senses. This is Nur Athirah Binti Mohd Hamsani, one of the excellent students from the Kuliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences (KENMS), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).
A humble girl, from Kuala Terengganu, she considers herself not yet successful until she achieves her dream of graduating this September (2014) with a first class degree.
As a final year Bachelor of Science (Islamic Finance) student, Nur Athirah Hamsani has managed to secure her name in the Dean’s list every semester since joining the university in 2009.
She had been one of the excellent students during school days but the fact that she did not get an A for all subjects that she took in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination in 2008 did not deter her intention to achieve better results. She said, for her, “I have my own motto in life, that nobody can say no, except you yourself”. This motto has encouraged her to work harder after she had suffered a failure in 2008.
What are the recipe for her success? To recover from her failure, she said, she had managed her own skills and found tips to be one of the top students in the university. Before the semester starts, she will make sure to have her own schedules for the semester. She will prepare files for every subject and all the equipment to be used for the coming semester.
Apart from being excellent academically, she has been active in extracurricular activities like being in the committee of the Kuliyyah of Economics and Management Science Society. She has been in the welfare and public relations committee.
With all her participation and involvement, her main focus is to gain experience and knowledge. For Nur Athirah, there are three basic keys to success: prayer, family and tawakkal.
As an economic and management science student, her ambition is to be an investment analyst at a well-known company.
“Strive for the best to be granted heaven and avoid failure that will end up in hell”, she added.
